IES Valle of the Cidacos

STUDENTS OF THE 2nd year IESVALLE OF THE TRAVELING CIDACOS SALAMANCA

Between 27 and the 29 November, exams finished the first evaluation, students of 2nd Baccalaureate enjoyed a fascinating trip to Salamanca and the Natural Park Arribes of the Duero. Sixty-two students plus three teachers and a guide who accompanied us throughout the tour could visit during the first two days the most iconic buildings in the city:

  • New Cathedral and Old Cathedral ascending to the top, what it allowed us to closely observe the structure of Gothic buildings and the beautiful Romanesque dome or tower Gallo
  • Plateresque facade of the XVI century old university or Higher Schools (the oldest university in Spain founded by Alfonso IX of Leon in 1218 and located between the oldest in Europe with Paris, Oxford and Bologna)
  • Little Schools and Cielo de Salamanca representing the constellations and zodiac signs that decorated the ceiling of the library
  • Casa de las Conchas with its beautiful facade and courtyard, Today the municipal library.
  • Casa Museo de Unamuno or Casa Rectoral, where we could learn more aspects of one of the most important intellectuals of our country
  • San Esteban Convent of the Order of the Dominicans or Preachers, responsible for evangelizing Native Americans. Here Columbus presented his project to the confessor of Isabel the Catholic, and here he lived Francisco de Vitoria, Dominican priest famous humanist, who raised the humanity of the Indians and, in his defense, was precursor of Human Rights, defending freedom as well holiest man and questioning the right of the Crown to submit violently Indians.
  • La Casa Lis, Modernist Museum with its fine collection and architecture and the Museum of Automotive ended the day

The last day we went towards Los Arribes of the Duero, but, on the way, we visited the beautiful Visigoth church San Pedro Ship. Once in Miranda do Douro, did the environmental boat tour cliffs carved by the river Douro. Technicians biological station helped us interpret wildlife, flora, geology, ethnography and even the microscope could observe some species of plankton and mallards and cormorants sighted a pair of Bonelli's eagle. A return enjoyed the otters in the reproduction of the program for children with special needs, they gave us a funny show their swimming skills.

A great trip, which it has served to learn otherwise, outside the classroom and in contact with the medium and to relax the nerves of the latest tests.
